Life of a Versiti Blood Drive Coordinator

Hello Friends.
Since the last time I posted, we added two 2024 Versiti blood drives in Fenton, Michigan at the Fenton United Methodist Church, Family Life Center. The third drive in Fenton will be summer Luau-themed on Thursday, August 15 (2:30-7:00 PM). Brightly colored Luau decorations, beach balls, flower leis, snacks, rubber duckies, a photo booth, and more! (No sharks!)
(The photos below are from our recent Holly Luau-themed blood drive on Saturday, July 27th.)

Then, our regular Holly schedule drive is Tuesday, August 20 (1-7 PM) and again it's Luau-themed one more time! Back to normal drives after that.

After thoughts from July 27's blood drive.
Someone should have reminded me that my usual high school volunteers would ALL be unavailable because of work, vacations, college tours, and more at the end of July.  Yikes! No student volunteers!

Then a miracle happened. Two former high school volunteers who had graduated from college were back in town and answered my call for HELP. The two gals plus their mom helped set up the blood drive area and decorated the registration and snack areas luau style. Plus all three donated blood. I felt I had won the trifecta!

The July drive ended up with 41 units of blood. Now times that by three patients' lives saved for each unit in MIchigan hospitals and the total becomes 123 patients' lives impacted. It makes all the work of coordinating a blood drive seem worth it. Here are a few photos of our decorations and donors.

Now forward to our next blood drive in Fenton on Aug 15th, then to Holly on August 20th.

That's all for now.
Thanks for reading.
